How to sort these differences? How to understand the basics of this issue, often discussed in some environments? Simply, the Business Analyst is in charge with "what to do" while the Project Manager is responsible for "how to do it".
From my experience, both these roles have some fun and also a few important and quite touch responsibilities, in the same time. I cannot say it is simpler or tougher to be a BA or a PM. I just love both and understand the basics. I worked as a Business Analyst and/or Project Manager, in both Waterfall and Agile environments.
The Business Analysts are concerned by the business requirements of the project, both in setting them up in the initial stage of the project and at the end of the project, when they need to check if these requirements were achieved. The Project Managers are responsible for the initiation of the project, all the related documentation, the project scope and its development in time and budget.
