Why such a topic? I thought that it's a good idea to publish this way of mine of seeing Agile, I've started to learn and apply Agile Software Development values and following its principles in 1999; I think this is a representative experience in delivering effective solutions for both Biz and IT areas.
When developing software solutions, Agile approach helps us to be closer to Biz area. What about vice-versa. Well, the answer is simple: since there are a few Biz-specific methodologies which are currently applied in Agile software development (Lean, Kanban, Six Sigma), we can see that Biz area is moving closer and closer to the software development area.
What about other areas? Can we apply any knowledge from Agile in sectors of activity like health-care, HR, marketing, legal, sales, accounting or even project management (not only IT Project Management)? Of course we can, and even more, we can successfully do this.
The benefits will be the same as in the Agile Software Development:
This is how I can foresee the future of Biz, a future where most of the departments will run Agile-specific processes, based on Agile-specific core values... and this is what I call "Agile Business". If interested in more, here are a few other articles on this topic:
