Why such a topic? I thought that it's a good idea to publish this way of mine of seeing Agile, I've started to learn and apply Agile Software Development values and following its principles in 1999; I think this is a representative experience in delivering effective solutions for both Biz and IT areas.
When developing software solutions, Agile approach helps us to be closer to Biz area. What about vice-versa. Well, the answer is simple: since there are a few Biz-specific methodologies which are currently applied in Agile software development (Lean, Kanban, Six Sigma), we can see that Biz area is moving closer and closer to the software development area.

Sometimes it takes time for a new concept to be part of our professional life (eg Agile), sometimes a new one conquers us faster (eg Big Data). The main reason for this is the change involved in adoption: the first one requires all of us to change our mind-sets and behavior, whilst the second one is mostly based on a new technology.
What about a pair of these, Agile Big Data? Well, this concept is even newer, actually one of the newest trends of this year, 2015. Basically, it is about using Agile principles in running the Analytics projects.
As often happening with new terms, DevOps is a broad term for defining a collision of two other trends:
When the developing environment is Agile, the projects will be managed by an Agile Project Manager. Thus, the development will be iterative and compliant with all the Agile values, including those from Agile Manifesto.
The main benefit of Agile Project Management is the responsiveness to changes during the project course. Following this way, the business values will be easier followed, so the customer satisfaction will increase.
The Business Analysts are key members of the teams, into organizations. They gather and analyze the business and stakeholder information, collaborate between managers, developers and users etc. According to Wikipedia, the Business Analysis activity is even wider.
If we look across companies, we can see the Business Analysts involved in planning, analysis, validation, modeling. These are activities present in both Waterfall and Agile environments. |
