Why to have Business Analysis professionals, Business System Analysts, in particular?

I don't think every BA can become an Agile BA. Agreed that in waterfall they have human interaction when gathering requirements but the interaction is less intense than in Agile and more structures/planned. Also in recent years you have had many companies adopting the off-shore model meaning less face-to-face and more on email and phones. My view is if you are a waterfall BA then yes you can move to Agile but if you are not a natural peoples person you will struggle.

I don't disagree, however to add to your point.. if you are a waterfall BA and management is working you at 100% capacity, you will never have an opportunity to succeed in becoming an agile BA. Too many large companies these days are pushing their BAs to a point where they don't have room to grow.
